PROJECT SUMMARY
Name of ProjectNaval Air Station Fallon Base Operations Services
Location
Fallon, Nevada
Client
United States Navy
Description of Work
Chugach provides Base Operations Services to 4,000 on site naval, government and contractor employees and nearly 10,000 trainees who visit the installation. Chugach maintains facilities, building systems, and other infrastructure that is ensures essential support of the naval warfighter is unhindered.
Unique Challenges
Fallon is situated in the scenic Lahontan Valley in Northern Nevada, approximately 70 miles east of Reno, Nevada, located on U.S. Highway 50, known as the loneliest Highway in America. Daytime temperatures in the summer can exceed 100⁰F, with temperatures below zero in the winter. The high desert area is routinely subject to high winds and blowing dust. These temperature swings stress heating and cooling equipment requiring Chugach to be efficient and inventive in our daily maintenance.
Solutions
Chugach evaluated the environmental impact on systems and created value-added services by cross training personnel. Chugach crews work extended shifts and are equally staffed for both preventative and corrective maintenance. To mitigate impacts of electrical outages, Chugach installed emergency back-ups on boilers, giving time for crews to re-fire pressured vessels in the mechanical rooms. Crews use a water tank truck with a pressure washer to remove food waste from waste receptacles onsite rather than hauling them back to a maintenance shop to clean. Chugach exceeds the goal of providing quality scheduled service without delay, by avoiding negatively impacting mission work while we are performing maintenance tasks and ensuring our work procedures allow our skilled technicians to provide stellar services.
